Fudge3d vs Tripo
A comparison of Fudge3d's local desktop workflow and Tripo's hosted 3D generation workflow.

The honest case for the hosted approach
Letting somebody else own the hardware brings advantages a desktop application cannot match:
No hardware to buy
Generation happens on their machines, so your own graphics card – or absence of one – stops being the limit.
Rigging and animation
Tripo can rig and animate what it generates. Fudge3d produces static meshes and offers nothing in this area.
API and plugins
A REST API with webhooks, plus plugins for common engines and DCC tools, make it straightforward to script into a pipeline. Fudge3d integrates by exporting files.
Reachable anywhere
A hosted service can be driven from a laptop, a tablet or your own backend. A desktop application only runs where it is installed.
What changes when the compute is yours
The location of the computing is not an implementation detail – it decides privacy, how cost scales with iteration, and whether the tool works with no connection at all.
| Dimension | Tripo | Fudge3d |
|---|---|---|
| Where generation runs | On Tripo's hosted infrastructure | On your own GPU, locally |
| What leaves your machine | The image or prompt you submit is sent to the service | Nothing is transmitted at any point |
| Inputs | Text prompts and images | Text prompts and a single image |
| Rigging and animation | Auto-rigging for humanoid and creature types, with a preset motion library | Not offered – static meshes only |
| Pipeline integration | A REST API with webhooks, plus engine and DCC plugins | A desktop application on the machine doing the work |
| Remeshing | Low-poly and quad-oriented output options | Local remeshing for existing models |
| Retexturing an existing mesh | Texturing tools for generated assets | AI-generated PBR maps for UV-mapped meshes |
| Working offline | Requires connectivity | Local creative operations; Pro caches a signed entitlement for 30 days |
| Cost model | Subscription tiers with a monthly generation allowance | Unlimited generation on Pro – you already own the compute |
| Rights to your output | Full commercial rights on paid tiers; free-tier output under a Creative Commons attribution licence – check current terms | You own everything you generate on both tiers, commercially, with no attribution |

Match the tool to your constraint
Choose the hosted route when
You have no capable GPU, you need rigging or animation, you want to trigger generation from a server or a mobile device, or you would rather rent compute than own it.
Choose Fudge3d when
Confidentiality is non-negotiable, you want to iterate without watching an allowance, you need to work with no connection, or your workstation already has the GPU for it.
Common questions
Should I pick Tripo or Fudge3d?
If you want to generate without owning hardware, need rigging and animation, or want to call a hosted API from your own backend, Tripo covers those and Fudge3d does not. Fudge3d instead keeps creative processing on your GPU without uploading creative inputs or outputs, and Pro does not add a per-generation charge.
What does Tripo do that Fudge3d does not?
Auto-rigging and animation, a hosted REST API with webhooks, engine and DCC plugins, and generation without any local graphics card. Those are real gaps on our side rather than minor ones.
Does Fudge3d offer an API I can call from a server?
No. Fudge3d is a desktop application for Windows 10/11 and macOS on Apple Silicon. If a callable hosted service is what your pipeline needs, Tripo's API may be the better fit.
Can either one retexture a model I already have?
Fudge3d includes an AI texture generator that produces PBR maps for UV-mapped meshes. If retexturing external assets is central to your work, check what any hosted tool currently supports before committing.
Is my work private with Fudge3d?
Yes. Generation, texturing, remeshing and repainting all run on your own GPU, and the application contains no analytics or telemetry. There is no upload path, so there is no third party holding your assets.
